OAi Studio · Fit Check

Will this little keycap fit your keyboard?

A 30-second check before you choose your tiny desk companion: look for the right stem, match the key size, then press gently. No guesswork needed.

Start the 30-second check
01 · Before you choose

The 30-second fit check.

You only need your keyboard, one existing keycap, and a tiny bit of curiosity.

01

Lift one keycap

Choose the key you want to replace. Lift it straight up from the base—never pull on the switch itself.

02

Look for a “+”

A small cross-shaped MX-style stem is the good sign. It is the most common fit for OAi artisan keycaps.

03

Match the width

Check the size listed on your chosen OAi product page. A 1U cap must replace a 1U key; larger caps need a matching key position.

02 · The important little shape

Find the small cross underneath.

OAi artisan keycaps are made for Cherry MX-style cross stems unless a specific product page says otherwise.

✓ Usually a match

Cherry MX-style cross stem

Look for a tiny + shape on top of your switch. Many standard mechanical keyboards use this mount.

× Please do not force it

Not made for every keyboard

OAi caps are not designed for low-profile switches, capacitive keyboards, membrane keyboards, laptop keyboards, or non-cross stems.

If it does not line up naturally, stop. Please do not press, twist, or force a keycap into place. Send a clear photo of your keyboard switch and the key position to hello@oai.studio—we are happy to help before you order.

03 · A tiny measuring language

Match the width, not just the picture.

“U” means unit width. Use the exact size on the product page and compare it with the key you are replacing.

Esc F1 F2 F3 F4 F5 F6 F7 F8 1U W E R T Y U I O 1.5U often a modifier A S D F G H 2.25U often Enter on ANSI layouts
1U

The easy starter

The standard square key size—often ideal for Esc, function row accents, or arrow clusters.

1.5U

Check the modifier row

A wider key found on many layouts. Compare it with your own keyboard before choosing.

2.25U

Your centerpiece size

Commonly used for Enter on many ANSI layouts. Layouts vary, so measure the key you are replacing.

04 · The gentle part

Install it with a light hand.

A compatible keycap should sit naturally—never need force.

Align the cross

Hold the cap close to its base and line the MX cross up directly above the switch.

Press straight down

Use gentle, even pressure. Avoid pressing on small sculpted details or one edge only.

Enjoy the little click

Test one gentle keystroke. If it feels wrong or sits unevenly, remove it and ask before forcing it.

05 · Still wondering?

A few tiny questions, answered.

The exact product listing is always the final reference for size and compatibility.

Do OAi artisan keycaps fit every mechanical keyboard?

No. OAi artisan keycaps are made for Cherry MX-style cross stems unless a product page says otherwise. The correct key width also matters. Low-profile switches, capacitive keyboards, membrane keyboards, laptop keyboards, and non-cross stems are not compatible.

What does 1U, 1.5U, or 2.25U mean?

It describes the width of a key. A 1U key is the standard square size. A 1.5U cap is wider, and a 2.25U cap is wider again. Always match the listed product size to the physical key you are replacing—keyboard layouts are not all identical.

Can I install an artisan keycap on an Enter, Shift, or Spacebar key?

Only if the product page lists the same key size and your keyboard uses a compatible MX-style cross stem. Larger keys can vary by layout, stabilizer design, and region, so please compare your own key before ordering.

I am still not sure. Can OAi check for me?

Yes. Email hello@oai.studio with a clear photo of the switch under your existing keycap, the key you want to replace, and your keyboard model if you know it. We will help you make a more confident choice.
